While a resident at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Care Center, Fern Yager was called to her eternal rest Dec. 30, 2003 at the age of 87 years, eight months, and nine days.
Fern was born April 21, 1916, in Wright County, Minn., the daughter of Robert and Ida (Zander) Wolfsteller.
She was baptized May 28, 1916, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Maple Lake, by the Rev. Mentzenroder, and confirmed in her faith at the same church March 24, 1929 by the Rev. C.W. Zeyher.
She was united in marriage to Walter Yager Nov.10, 1936, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church by the Rev. A. Struefert. This union was blessed with five children.
They made their home and living on a farm east of Howard Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ida Wolfsteller, husband Walter Yager, two brothers Victor and Carl Wolfsteller; sisters Pearl Uecker and Myrtle Horstman, and brothers-in-law Vernon Uecker, Ed Horstman, and Alfred Krammerer.
Fern is survived by her children Violet (Victor) Erickson of Maple Lake, Donna (Gervase) Kappel of Winsted, Glen (Jean) Yager of Waverly, Ted Yager of Waverly, and Dave Yager of Waverly
She is further survived by grandchildren Mike Yager (fiancee Julie) of Waconia, Tim (Darla) Yager of Howard Lake, Dan (Amy) Yager of Howard Lake, Linda (Tom) Engelke of Winsted, and Sally Kappel (special friend Jeff) of Winsted.
Fern is also survived by great grandchildren Amanda Yager, Chase Engelke, and Leighton Buhr, sister Ruby Kammerer of Annandale, sister-in-law Alice and Erna Wolfsteller of Howard Lake, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 5, 2004 at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Rev. Michael Nirva and the Rev. Martin Schoenfeld officiating. The organist was Nancy Butterfass, with special music by soloist Marienne Kreitlow.
Casketbearers were Brian Yager, Mike Yager, Kenneth Yager, Tim Yager, Tom Engelke, and Dan Yager.
Interment was at the St. James Cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake.
