Arthur G. Ahrendt

Arthur G. Ahrendt, age 99 of Delano, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004 at Park View Care Center in Buffalo.

Arthur was born Dec. 12, 1905 to Carl H. and Maria (Beyrow) Ahrendt in Marion, S.D.

Arthur left South Dakota as a young man to work for his sister and brother-in-law near Luverne, where he remained until his marriage.

Arthur was united in marriage to Catherine J. Giedemann Feb. 25, 1933 .

They made their home in Hardwick, where they rented a farm and ran a barber shop. They stayed in Hardwick for 11 years, until moving to Luverne, where they rented another farm until November 1947. At this time, they purchased a farm on Lake Haughey Road, just east of Delano.

Catherine died in 1993, and Arthur stayed on the farm until October 2002, when he moved to Maple Lake to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Eldor Pawelk.

Arthur was a resident of Park View Care Center in Buffalo for nine months prior to his death.

Arthur and Catherine were married for almost 60 years. They enjoyed traveling, and attended many Elderhostels around the world.

Arthur was a charter member of the Delano Senior Center. At the age of 70, both he and Catherine took up bowling.

Arthur enjoyed working with wood crafts and tending to his many vegetable and flower gardens.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; sons Allen and James; son-in-law Dick Healy; and great-grandsons David and Tyler Pawelk.

Arthur is survived by his children: daughters Joan (husband Eldor) Pawelk, and Caroline Healy; his son, Dr. Jerry (wife Robbie) Ahrendt, 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Johanna Bowman.

Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 1 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.The Rev. Paul Marggraf officiated at the service, with music provided by organist, Meg Marggraf, and congregational singing. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Delano.

Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
