Stella R. Bettcher
Funeral services celebrating the life of Stella R. Bettcher, age 101 of Glencoe and formerly of Lester Prairie, were Monday, Aug. 2, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Stella died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care Unit in Glencoe.
Stella Rosella Albertina was born May 28, 1903, in Rich Valley Township, the daughter of Herman and Elvira (Breyer) Moenke. She was baptized June 14, 1903 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie, by the Rev. G. H. Buesher; and was confirmed into the faith April 1, 1917 at the same church by the Rev. Baumhoefner.
Stella attended St. Peter’s Parochial School.
She was united in marriage to Arthur Bettcher May 28, 1924, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Baumhoefner.
She was a life-long resident of Lester Prairie until 10 years ago, when she entered the long term care unit in Glencoe.
Stella enjoyed flowers, baking breads, and knitting. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Lewis Bettcher (wife, Elizabeth) of Lester Prairie, Carl Bettcher (wife, Marlene) of Reardon, Wash., and Brenda Bettcher of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren: Scott Bettcher (wife, Lori), Lee Bettcher (wife, Kirsten), Joel Bettcher (wife, Amy), James Bettcher (wife, Brenda), and Joshua Bettcher (wife, Kimberly); and eight great-grandchildren.
Stella is further survived by a sister, Helma Kuhlmann of Lester Prairie; sister-in-law Lillian Moenke, brother-in-law Claude Price, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Elvira; her husband, Arthur; a great-granddaughter, Natalie Bettcher; siblings, Oscar Moenke, Wilbert and Lousie Moenke, Waldemar Moenke, Martha and Willis Oslund, Clara and Fred Debner, and Hildegard Price; and a brother-in-law, Theodore Kuhlmann.
Officiating at the 2 p.m. funeral service was the Rev. Eric Nelson. The organist was Jane Holasek, and the congregational hymns were “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “Jesus Loves Me, This I Know.”
Visitation was two hours prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment was in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers were Joel and Amy Bettcher, James and Brenda Bettcher, and Joshua and Kimberly Bettcher.
Arrangements were by Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel, Lester Prairie.
