Juergen Charles Bettcher
Juergen Charles Bettcher, age 77 of New Germany, died accidentally Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004.
He was born Sept. 9, 1927 in Bergen Township, McLeod County, the son of Ewald and Ferninda Terlinden Bettcher.
Juergen was baptized Oct. 9, 1927 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bergen Township, McLeod County. He was also instructed in the Lutheran catechism, and confirmed in the Christian faith April 6, 1941 at the same church. Juergen’s confirmation memory verse was Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was awarded a Bronze star.
Juergen married Grace C. Farber Oct. 1, 1954, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany. God blessed their marriage with a son, Douglas.
Juergen was employed for many years by Joe Gehlen at Gehlen Farm Service/Elevator in Silver Lake.
He was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood Township, Carver County, rural New Germany.
Juergen is survived by his loving son, Douglas (Debbie) Bettcher of Mayer; two grandchildren: Chad Bettcher and Mindy Bettcher; a brother and sisters, Ewald (Dorothy) Bettcher Jr., and Violet Tonn, all of Lester Prairie; Derrola Fasching of Winsted, Della Stender, and Florence Klaustermeier, both of Lester Prairie; Carol Adams of Victoria, and Bette (Gene) Miller of Cologne; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Farber of Watertown; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Grace C. Bettcher, Jan. 6, 2004; his parents, Ewald and Ferninda Bettcher; a brother, Victor Bettcher; and sisters, Eunice Wainwright and Evangeline Fasching.
Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church of Hollywood, rural New Germany, with the Rev. Robert Rupprecht officiating. Special music was provided by John Farber, and Becky Aurich served as organist. Congregational hymns were “Lift High the Cross,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” and “I Know that My Redeemer Lives.” Interment followed at St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends called Thursday, Dec. 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A prayer service took place at 7 p.m.
Casket bearers were John Bettcher, Brian Miller, Rick Adams, Roger Fasching. Allen Klaustermeier, and Dean Adams.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
