Otto A. Birkholtz
Otto A. Birkholtz, 86, of Waverly, died Saturday evening, Jan. 10, 2004 at his residence.
He was born Aug. 25, 1917 in Winsted Township, the son of Gust and Ida Lempher Birkholtz.
Otto A. Birkholtz and Eleanor K. Remer were joined in holy marriage April 17, 1939 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with 17 children.
Otto engaged in dairy farming for many years in Albion Township, (Rural Route 1, Maple Lake). He formerly sold feeder pigs.
Through the years, Otto also engaged in carpentry and masonry work, and worked at Winsted's Canning Factory.
He was a faithful member of The Church of St. Mary in Waverly.
Otto is survived by wife Eleanor K. Birkholtz; children Mary Ann Niesen of Buffalo, Bernice Wiegand of Osseo, Marlys (Jim) Sobaski of Woodbury, Caroline (Scott) Pell of Minneapolis, Celestine (Myron) Weege of Winona, Ervin (Sue) Birkholtz of Motley, Rosemary (Jerome) Jenkins of Waverly, James (Mary) Birkholtz of Staples, Joanne (Lyle) Krecklau of Buffalo, Ralph (Sarah) Birkholtz of Pillager, Dale Birkholtz of Motley, Rita (Tim) Ambuhl of Winona, Tom Birkholtz of Montrose, Patty (Ralph) Bakeberg of Brainerd, Paul (Linda) Birkholtz of Glenwood, and Joseph (Janet) Birkholtz of Buffalo.
Otto is further survived by 48 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, sisters Lenora Parpart of Woodbury and Clara Kling of Inver Grove Heights, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gust and Ida Birkholtz, son Cletus Birkholtz in 1972, and six brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Otto Birkholtz was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 at The Church of St. Mary in Waverly. Father Timothy Cloutier was the Celebrant, and interment followed at St. Timothy Cemetery in Maple Lake.
Friends called from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13 at the church.
Honorary casketbearers were Todd Weege, Jeff Birkholtz, Neil Jenkins, Richard Smith Raymond Birkholtz, Cassie Bakeberg, and Michelle Sobaski.
Casketbearers were Brian Bakeberg, Chad Birkholtz, Steven Jenkins, Wayne Wiegand, Mark Bondeson, and Zack Ambuhl.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
