Raydon D. Erickson, 79
Raydon Duane Erickson, 79, of Howard Lake, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004 at Buffalo Hospital
Raydon was born Sept. 28, 1924 in Langford, S.D., the son of Melvin and Theresa (Liknes) Erickson. He spent his childhood in the Langford area, attending school there. Following school, Raydon worked on local farms. He also worked at the ship yards in the Seattle, Wash., area.
Raydon served his country in the United States Army from April 1944 to May 1946. Following his discharge from the army, he owned a filling station in Webster, S.D.
Raydon was united in marriage to Lois Bigelow May 14, 1947 also in Webster. The couple resided there until 1955. The family then moved to the Cokato and Howard Lake areas. Raydon worked at Moorhead Implement, Mattson Building Company, Watertown Implement, and American Feed.
Raydon enjoyed spending time on the computer, woodworking, and socializing with his family and friends. He was a member of the Howard Lake American Legion Post 145.
Raydon was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois, son Juel, and sisters Harriet, Muriel, and Hazel.
He is survived by his wife Jean, children Duane (Jerrilyn) of Delano, Richard (Cindy) of Eagan, Echo (James) Barth of Buffalo, Rodney of Buffalo, Michele (Roger) Miller of Monticello, Lester (Nancy) of Coon Rapids, Dawn (Douglas) Ward of Rockford, Marsha (Thomas) Kutz of Howard Lake, LuAnn Erickson of Manannah, and Jeffrey of Howard Lake.
He is further survived by step-children Richard (Ann) Doll of Newport News, Va.; Rob Doll of San Fransisco and Mexico City, John (Lisa) Doll of Georgetown, Colo.; brother Dale (Doris) Erickson of Minneapolis; 27 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation was Wednesday, Jan. 28 from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake, and one hour prior to the funeral service at church. A prayer service was conducted at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral service for Raydon was Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004 at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. The Rev. Joel Swedberg officiated, and music was provided by Grant Judd.
Interment was Friday, Jan. 30 at Falnes Lutheran Cemetery in Langford, S.D.
Honorary casketbearers were grandchildren, great grandchildren, Jim Blackstone, and Raydon's daily coffee buddies.
Casketbearers were Summer Barnes, Bryan Erickson, Jieles Erickson, Rachel Kutz, Paul Paradiff III, and Lisa Ward.
Arrangements were by Swanson Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake and Cokato.
