Leona Doris Ida Gulso
Leona Doris Ida Gulso, age 91 of Howard Lake, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004 at Howard Lake Good Samaritan Home.
She was born March 15, 1913 in Howard Lake, the daughter of George and Anna (Marquardt) Krohn. A life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, she was baptized April 13, 1913 by the Rev. A. J. Oetjen, and confirmed in her faith April 10, 1927, by the Rev. C. G. Seltz.
Leona was united in marriage to Louis Gulso June 24, 1934, by the Rev. Seltz at St. James Lutheran Church. Their 60 years together were blessed with two sons and one daughter.
Leona and Louis made their home on a farm southwest of Howard Lake, where Leona enjoyed gardening and cooking.
She is survived by two sons, Stanley of Howard Lake and Norman of Cokato; daughter Janette Barrett and her husband, James, of Alexandria; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
Leona is preceded in death by her parents, George and Anna Krohn; husband, Louis; four brothers: Walter, George, Arthur, and Ernest Krohn; and four sisters: Clara Bullert, Elsie Schauer, Lydia Yager, and Eldrine Marks.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfield officiating. Nancy Butterfass served as organist. Interment was at the Howard Lake Cemetery.
Visitation took place Monday, Oct. 25, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Visitation continued one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Serving as pallbearers were Matthew Anderson, Mark Barrett, Michael Barrett, and Richard Horman.
The Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake served the family.
