Mervin D. Harms
Funeral services were Monday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Benton Township, Cologne, for Mervin D. Harms, age 60 of Norwood Young America. Mervin died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004 at his home in Benton Township.
The Rev. Eric Zacharias will officiate at the funeral service. The organist will be Julianne Marcsisak. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Cologne.
Casketbearers are David Harms, Brent Hoernemann, Randi Benkowski, Jeff Lenzen, Steve Lenzen, and Brian Lenzen. Honorary casketbearers are his godchildren: Norma O’Leary, Kari Nikolaisen, Julie Ayers, Janet Plath, David Harms, and Brent Hoernemann.
Mervin was born March 19, 1944 in Shakopee, the son of Fred C. and Ella D. Gruenhagen Harms. He was baptized April 9, 1944 at Zion Lutheran Church, Benton Twp., Cologne, by the Rev. R. Rottmann; and confirmed March 30, 1958, at the same church, by the Rev. John Melchert.
Mervin was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Krienke Oct. 26, 1968, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie by the Rev. Harold Bode.
He lived all his life in Benton Township, Norwood, on the family farm.
Mervin loved farming and his family.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Benton Twp., serving on the school board, and as a head usher and an elder in the church.
He was employed as a truck driver for RoseCo in Green Isle.
Mervin served his country in the National Guard.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; his children and spouses: Jason and Sandi Harms of Jordan, Janell and Pat Elleraas of Chaska, and Jolene Harms of Gaylord; grandchildren Kari and Kelsey Harms; brother Maynard Harms and friend Ilene Hansen of Belle Plaine; sisters and brothers-in-law: Majel and Norman Benkowski of Lester Prairie, and Marilyn and Dennis Lenzen of Chaska; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Kenny and Shirley Krienke of Glencoe, Daryl and Cherryl Lynn Krienke of Lester Prairie, and Wallace and Linda Krienke of Waverly; uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Mervin was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ella Harms; father-in-law and mother-in-law Walter and Adela Krienke, and sister-in-law Enid Harms.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
