Leon E. Hilgers
Leon E. Hilgers, age 75 of Waconia, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Good Samaritan Center, Waconia.
Leon was born Oct. 10, 1928, at Waconia, the son of Edwin W. and Evelyn H. (Kunze) Hilgers. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Waconia.
He was a graduate of Waconia High School.
Leon married Elizabeth (Betty) Klein Oct. 28, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Waconia. Elizabeth passed away Dec. 26, 1994.
Leon married Ione F. Weinzierl Klein April 26, 1995 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
He was self-employed in the Waconia milling business. He also drove bus for Koch Bus Company, and hauled milk.
Leon was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Aid Society.
He is survived by his wife, Ione; children and spouses: David and Jessica Hilgers, Shirley and Roger Lehrke, all of Waconia, and Pat and Bob Stacken of Hopkins; grandchildren: Erin and Marni Lehrke, Shelly Hilgers, Julie Hilgers and special friend Sean Stardinger, Jeremy Lehrke and fiancee Christi Griffis, Jesse, Jacob and Andrea Stacken.
Leon is further survived by stepchildren: Michael Klein and special friend Jean Norman of Winsted; Gerald and Gloria Klein of Cologne, Mary Sage of Buffalo, Carol and Kevin Novacek of Buffalo; 10 step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law Joyce and James Worm of Waconia, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Marilyn Hilgers, Earl and Bernadetta Klein, all of Waconia, Dorothy and Andrew Vanderlinde of Mound, Marion and Francis Wagener of Watertown, and Tom and Diane Weinzderl of St. Bonifacius, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his first wife, Elizabeth (Betty), Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Evelyn Hilgers, a brother, Roger (Jerry) Hilgers, and a brother-in-law, Gordon Klein.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, June 19, at noon, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waconia, with the Rev. James Himmelsbach officiating. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Waconia.
Casketbearers were Leon’s grandchildren: Erin Lehrke, Shelly Hilgers, Julie Hilgers, Jeremy Lehrke, Jesse Stacken, Jacob Stacken, and Andrea Stacken.
Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
