Dennis August Herman Ide

Dennis Ide of Lester Prairie entered his eternal rest at St. Mary’s Care Center Monday, Nov. 29, 2004 in Winsted at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 5 days.

Dennis August Herman Ide was born the son of Ewald and Alma (Dose) Ide Jan. 24, 1919 in Bergen Township, Minn.

Dennis was baptized on Feb. 23, 1919 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie by Rev. Baumhoefener and later confirmed into the faith on April 9, 1933 also at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church by Rev. Schert. His education was in parochial school through the eighth grade.

Dennis enlisted into the United States Army on June 9, 1942 at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis. He proudly served his country in World War and later was honorably discharged from the Army on January 14, 1946 at Camp McCoy, Wis.

Dennis was united in marriage to Audrey Smith on July 30, 1944 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg with the Rev. L.T. Wohlfeil presiding.

For over 30 years he was employed by the Lester Prairie Farmers Co-op Elevator.

He was a member of the American Legion for 50 years and also was a retired fireman, who served on the Lester Prairie Fire Department for over 20 years. Dennis served two terms as an elder of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and also served as an usher.

He loved watching baseball, both professional and amateur town team baseball. At family outings, Dennis enjoyed playing kittenball (softball).

His main love was harvest time when he could help out on the farm and plow the fields. He was always willing to give a helping hand to friends, neighbors, and to his sons.

The biggest joy in Dennis’ life was his family, especially his three sons, the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Ewald and Alma; father and mother-in-law: Helen and James Smith; sister and brother-in-law: Verdilla and Harold Bullert; brother: Hillard Ide; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Robert and Vida Givens.

Dennis is survived by his wife: Audrey Ide of Lester Prairie; sons: Larry Ide (wife: Bertha) of Lester Prairie, Gerald Ide of Lester Prairie and Keith Ide (wife: Judy) of Winsted; grandchildren Beth Ann Schmidt (husband: Thomas), Nathan Ide, Jason Ide and Lindsay Ide.

He is further survived by great-grandchildren Caleb Schmidt, Colton Schmidt, Phillip Ide and Michael Ide; brother: Vernon Ide (wife: Edna) of Glencoe; sister-in-law: Dorothy Ide of Hutchinson; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Dennis H. Ide, were Friday, Dec. 3, 2004 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Officiating was the Rev. Eric Nelson. The organist was Marsha Christenson and soloist was Linnea Bullert who sang “In The Garden” and “The Lord Is My Shepherd”. The congregational hymns were “Abide With Me” and “How Great Thou Art”.

Serving as casket bearers were Mark Binder, DuWayne Bullert, Nathan Ide, Beth Ann Schmidt, Jason Ide and Lindsay Ide. The honorary casket bearers were Caleb Schmidt, Colton Schmidt, Phillip Ide and Michael Ide. Interment was in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation was Thursday evening at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.

Arrangements were with the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
