Richard “Dick” Jaeger
Richard “Dick” Jaeger, age 73 of New Germany, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
He was born July 1, 1931 at Rib Lake, Wis., the son of David and Sofia (Christ) Jaeger. He was baptized Aug. 2, 1931 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rib Lake, Wis.; and confirmed March 25, 1945 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord by the Rev. E. H. Stahlke.
Dick married Shirley A. Mielke at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, by the Rev. Robert Cordes.
He was involved with many different activities, and especially loved playing and coaching softball, basketball, and football. You could find him on the field or on the court many nights.
Dick served on the New Germany Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years. The members of the department participated in Dick’s wake and funeral service.
Also active in his church, Dick served as an usher.
His love of music was obvious, and he enjoyed singing in a barbershop quartet, the Norwood Young America Chorus and his church choir. Dick’s beautiful tenor voice was contagious, and he will be missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; children and spouses: Amy and Jayson Johnson of Oshkosh, Wis., Daniel Jaeger of New Germany, Mark and Annette Jaeger of Gibbon, Christine and Kevin Dearing of New Ulm, Michael and Peggy Jaeger of Champlin, Connie and Jeff Majeski of Winthrop, and Cyndia Jaeger of Williamston, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Dick is further survived by brothers and sisters-in-law Dean and Lois Jaeger of Atwater, and Henry and Helen Jaeger of Bird Island; his sister, Emma Schmidt of Belle Plaine; sister-in-law Julie Jaeger of Cottonwood; mother-in-law Gladys Mielke of New Germany; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Bonnie and Larry Finke of Williston, N.D., and Mary Mielke of New Germany; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, David and Sofia Jaeger; sisters Emily Trout and Molly Sylvester; brothers David and Robert Jaeger; father-in-law Roland Mielke; and brothers-in-law Henry Trout, Henry Schmidt, Melvin Sylvester, and Kendall Mielke.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Luthern Church, New Germany, with the Rev. Allen Holthus officiating. The organist was Mary Mielke. A combined choir of the members of St. Mark senior choir and the Norwood Young America Chorus sang, under the direction of Larry Finke. The Jaeger family also sang a hymn at the service.
Interment followed at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery, New Germany.
Casketbearers were Lowell Jaeger, David Jaeger, Wayne Schmidt, Duane Sylvester, Jonathan Mielke, Christopher Finke, and Michael Miller.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home, Waconia.
