Roger Lloyd Jakobitz

Funeral services celebrating the life of Roger Lloyd Jakobitz, age 57 of Lester Prairie, were Tuesday, Nov. 30 at the Grace Bible Church in Silver Lake. Roger died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004 at his home.

He was born Aug. 23, 1947 in Hutchinson, the son of Glendon and Margaret (Fischer) Jakobitz. Roger was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake.

After graduating from Buffalo Lake High School, Roger attended Alexandria Area Vocational Technical Institute, studying auto mechanics.

During his time in Alexandria, Roger served in the U.S. Army National Guard Tank Company.

He moved to Lester Prairie, where he took employment with Lester’s Building Systems as a carpenter. Roger retired as a foreman with Lester’s after 36 years of employment.

On June 3, 1988, Roger was united in marriage with Cheryl Scott-Schaumberg.

Roger was a very active member of the Grace Bible Church in Silver Lake, where he attended the men’s Bible study, participated in the puppet ministry, and shared his very strong faith.

He was a life member of the Forest City Thresher’s where, annually, he would operate the 400-horsepower steam engine, and this past year, worked on the train.

He was also a member of the Minnesota Steam Association.

Roger was a perfectionist who loved building things. He often helped the area Boy Scouts with their Pinewood Derby cars.

Roger enjoyed fishing, boating, and spending time with his grandchildren and many friends. He loved the time spent with Cheryl and family at the lake near Richmond.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael; and a grandson, Austen Tifft.

Roger is sadly missed by his wife, Cheryl Jakobitz of Lester Prairie; children: Rashel Hauber (husband David) of Fredericksburg, Va.; Ronda Fantetti (husband Patrick) of Prior Lake, Rita Tifft (husband David) of Hutchinson, Eddie Jakobitz (wife Niki) of Lester Prairie, Monica Baker (husband Jesse) of Circle Pines, and Angela Groff (husband David) of Lester Prairie; and grandchildren Jamie and Jonathon Hauber, Nick Fantetti, Samuel and Joseph Tifft, Brad and Emily Jakobitz, and Logan and Landon Groff

He is further survived by brothers and sister: Ross Jakobitz (wife G. Paula) of Buffalo Lake, Helen Young (husband Eugene) of Lester Prairie, and Steven Jakobitz (wife Gail) of Lonsdale; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Roy Scott of Hinckley, Lois and Walt Hanson of Conoco,Va.; and Joyce and Phillip Pederson of Benson; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Officiating at the 2 p.m. funeral service were the Revs. Tom Rakow and Gerald Hintz. The organist was Jane Holasek. Congregational hymns were “Give Me Jesus” and “No One Understands Like Jesus.” Marlin and Lonna Rasmussen sang a duet, “It Is Well With My Soul.”

Serving as casket bearers were Jason Jakobitz, Douglas Jakobitz, Laszlo Govrik, Dave Groff, Ben Hummel, Dave Tifft, Dave Hauber, Jesse Baker, and Patrick Fantetti. The honorary casket bearer was Jim Morris.

Roger was interred next to his infant son, Michael, in the Lester Prairie City Cemetery.

Visitation took place Monday evening, Nov. 29 at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
