Carrol LuVerne Jorgenson

Carrol LuVerne Jorgenson, age 71, of Watertown, S.D., died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at a Watertown hospital.

Born in Bismarck, N.D. Sept. 7, 1932 to Christ and Lena (Sveun) Jorgenson, Carrol grew up on a farm, and attended school in the Portland, N.D. area. He was confirmed Nov. 24, 1946, at Perry Lutheran Church in Portland.

Carrol entered the U.S. Army and served in Korea. After his discharge, he attended vocational school at Wahpeton, N.D.

Carrol and Gladys Herding were united in marriage Oct. 2, 1960, in Watertown. In 1965, they moved to Watertown, Minn., where Carrol worked as a class A machinist for Dana Corporation for over 26 years.

After retiring in 1991, Carrol and Gladys moved back to Watertown, S.D.

A member of the VFW and the American Legion, Carrol also enjoyed flying, motorcycles, and trips to the Black Hills.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Grateful for having shared his life are Carrol’s wife, Gladys, of Watertown, S.D.; a son, Gary (Laurie) Parish of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a daughter, Pauline (Harlan) Hecksel of Winsted; five grandchildren: Matt and Brandi of Sioux Falls, and Troy, Patricia and Amy of Winsted; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Eileen (Hubert) Johnson, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Thursday, March 18, 2 p.m., at Grace Lutheran Church, Watertown, S.D., with the Rev. Gary Westgard officiating. Music was provided by A.J. Sherrill, organist, and Judy Everson, soloist.

Visitation was Wednesday, March 17, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Sogn-Messer Funeral Home, and continued at the church prior to the service on Thursday.

Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors presented by the Frank H. Adams Post 750 VFW.

Pallbearers were Troy Hecksel, Matthew Parish, Jeremy Hirsch, Frank Barthel, Ronald Aker and Raymond Barthel.

Arrangements were by Sogn-Messer Funeral Home, Watertown, S.D.
