Lawrence R. Kloos, 80

Lawrence Robert Kloos, age 80, of Porter, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.

Lawrence was born Feb. 21, 1924 in St. Leo, to parents Jacob and Theresa (Lanners) Kloos. He was raised in St. Leo, and received the sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation at St. Leo Catholic Church, where he also attended parochial school.

Lawrence was married to Audrey Koch in Minneota Feb. 9, 1948. After they were married, Lawrence and Audrey lived on a farm in Wergeland Township, north of Porter, where they have lived since.

Lawrence farmed for many years, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canby.

Lawrence enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, gardening, following sporting events, and telling jokes. He and Audrey also enjoyed spending the winter months in Apache Junction, Ariz.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Audrey; his children: Jerry (Marie) Kloos of Minneota, Carolyn (Rod) Sievert of Pipestone, Greg (Deb) Kloos of Apple Valley, Judy (Don) Chanay and Terri (Lloyd) Kloos-Kurth, all of Phoenix, Ariz., Dan (Beckie) Kloos of Vista, Calif., Laura Kloos of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kevin (Shelly) Kloos of Winsted.

He is further survived by his grandchildren: Derrick Sievert, Rochelle Sievert, Tony Sievert, Jenny Farasyn, Brian Kloos, Matt Kloos, Becky Kloos, Angie Murphy, Emily Kloos, Katelyn Kloos, Jesse Kloos, Jacob Kloos, Tyler Kloos, Lucas Kloos, and Samantha Kloos; and his great-grandchildren: Brock Farasyn and Madelyn Murphy.

In addition, Lawrence is also survived by two sisters: Elizabeth Jelen of St. Leo, and Magdalene Opdahl of Minneota; and a brother, Jim Kloos of Las Vegas, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Nicholas Kloos, Ben Kloos, Leo Kloos, and Joe Kloos; and his sister, Adeline Driessen.

Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, June 5, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canby. Burial was in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.

The Birk Funeral Home in Canby is handling the arrangements.
