Orville H. Koehler obituary, 1/15/04


Orville H. Koehler, 82, of Waconia, formerly of Mound and
Mayer, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2004 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
He was born July 4, 1921 in Waconia Township, the son of
Henry R. and Alvina A. (Hecksel) Koehler.
Orville was baptized July 24, 1921, and confirmed April
14, 1935 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. F. W. Erthal.
He married Elda L. Schaunamann Oct. 18, 1944 at St. Peter’s
Lutheran Church in Watertown Township by the Rev. W. L. Stellwagon.
Orville graduated from Waconia High School. Orville and
Elda farmed near Mayer, and then moved to Mound in 1969.
Orville was a member of Mt.Olive Lutheran Church in Mound,
and after moving to Waconia in April of 2003, he joined Faith Lutheran Church.
Orville was a custodian for Independent School District #277 in Mound for
17 years. He retired in 1986.
He loved family gatherings and watching his grandchildren
play sports. Orville was an avid fisherman, played baseball, and pitched
horseshoe. He loved playing cards, especially sheephead and cribbage. Orville
was an avid gardener, and enjoyed his flowers. Orville will be missed by
all who knew him.
Orville was preceded in death by parents Henry and Alvina
Koehler, sister and brother-in-law Vangie and Chet Ortloff, father-in-law
and mother-in-law Frank and Augusta Schaunamann, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law
Walter Lobitz and Erna and Elmer Thun.
Orville is survived by his loving wife Elda, son and daughter-in-law
Tim and Shelley Koehler of Waconia, grandchildren Lisa and T.J. Koehler,
sister-in-law Lorena Lobitz of Watertown, nieces, nephews, other relatives,
and friends.
Funeral services were Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004 at 3 p.m. at
Faith Lutheran Church in Waconia, with the Rev. Julie Ebbesen officiating.
Interment was at Faith Rutz Lake Cemetery, Waconia.
Casketbearers were David Thun, Harvey Ziermann, John Lobitz,
Larry Lobitz, James Lobitz, Steve Bentz, Harlan Lobitz, and Dennis Truwe.
Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
