Leona Olga Krienke
Leona Olga Krienke, age 81 of Spring Park, and formerly of Victoria and Norwood Young America, died Friday, June 11, 2004 at Methodist Hospital, St. Louis Park.
Leona was born in Norwood Young America March 20, 1923, the daughter of Henry and Lena (Karnath) Krienke. She was baptized April 15, 1923, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America by the Rev. Abraham, and confirmed at the same church March 21, 1937, by the Rev. Kramer.
She went to school and lived with her family until she was 21 years old. At that time she was placed at the St. Peter State Hospital until the mid 1980s, when she returned to the Carver County area.
For 17 years, Leona resided at Community Living in Victoria, and she was a sheltered employee at Opportunity Workshop, and later at M.R.C.I., where she continued employment long into traditional retirement years.
Medical needs resulted in her move to Presbyterian Home in Spring Park in 2002. It was difficult for her to leave Community Living and M.R.C.I. families; however, her new caregivers took special interest in Leona, which was easy for everyone to do.
Leona is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Esther Gilster, Lydia Herrmann, and Evelyn Ische; and an infant brother.
She is survived by a sister, Elda Werth of Glencoe, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, June 14, 1 p.m., from the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood Young America, with the Rev. Scott Gustafson, of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, officiating.
Casketbearers were Community Living staff members. Interment was at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel, Norwood Young America.
