David J. Lukes
David J. Lukes, age 75 of Lester Prairie, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at the Glencoe Hospital.
He was born Feb. 16, 1929 at home in Staples, the son of Joseph and Sarah Collins Lukes.
David and Elizabeth “Betty” Jambor were joined in holy marriage Sept. 23, 1950. God blessed their marriage with six children.
David was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. He also belonged to the Czech Area Concertina Club and the Concertina Connection, enjoying playing the concertina for the past 40 years. David also made concertina straps.
He was a member of the Stearns County Pioneer Club, where he was in charge of music; and formerly a member of the Lester Prairie and Rainbow Sportsman’s Clubs. David loved to go hunting, especially for deer.
David is survived by his loving and caring wife, Elizabeth “Betty” of Lester Prairie; children: Michael (Reada) Lukes of Lester Prairie, Eugene “Gene” (Teresa) Lukes of Watertown, Katherine “Kathy” (Leon) Franke of Delano, Joseph (Marianne) Lukes of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Frederick “Fritz” (Jo) Lukes of Lester Prairie, and Teresa (Jim) Vejrosta of Silver Lake; grandchildren: Jacqueline, Christopher, Nathan, Ashle, Lynette, Alissa, Rachael, Adam, Jordan, Michelle, Aimee, Geoffrey, Shaun, Jenna and Jessika; and great-grandchildren: Faith, Haley, Cullen, Garrett, Raegan, Kaden, Derrick, Danielle, Britney, and another due to be born in January.
He is further survived by sisters Mary (Walter) Koep of Brainerd and Rita Lukes of Minneapolis; brothers-in-law Ray Lenk of Dupree, S.D., Joe (Lorraine) Jambor of Browerville, Albert Jambor of Isanti, Stanley (Dorothy) Jambor of Oakdale, Tony (Delores) Jambor of Bethel, and Frank Jambor of Milwaukee, Wis.; sister-in-law Florence Jambor of Staples; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sarah; a sister, Grace; parents-in-law, Theodore and Mary Jambor; brothers-in-law Valentine Jambor, Elmer Davis and Melvin Buchta; and sisters-in-law Mary Davis, Mary Ann Jambor, and Florence Buchta.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, June 26, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, with the Rev. Paul L. Wolf officiating. Interment was at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Visitation was Friday June 25, from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 7:15 p.m. Further visitation took place at the funeral home on Saturday, one hour prior to the Mass.
Vern Schleter, Ray Rannow, Dennis Walters, Pat Fahey, Ron Shay, Charles Johnson and Harlow West served as honorary casketbearers.
Serving as active casketbearers were grandsons Christopher, Nathan, Adam, Jordan, Geoffrey, and Shaun.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
