Howard R. Menth
Funeral services were Monday, Aug. 30, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, for Howard R. Menth, age 90 of New Germany. Howard died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004 at Glencoe Regional Health Service Long Term Care.
The Rev. Allen Holthus will officiate at the 11 a.m. service. Organist will be Alfred Born. Nathan Nelson will be vocalist, and Sarah Born will be violinist. Interment is in St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery.
Casketbearers are Darrel Menth, Allen Menth, Steven Menth, Bob Menth, Dan Heckmann, and Wayne Schmidt.
Howard was born July 28, 1914 at Mayer, the son of Christian and Hulda Lippert Menth. He was baptized Aug. 25, 1914 at Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer, by the Rev. F. W. Erthal; and confirmed April 1, 1928, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, by the Rev. Theo. Rolf.
Howard married Vernice A. Domres June 8, 1944 at Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer, by the Rev. Elmer Schwandt.
Howard farmed near New Germany. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, and served as Camden Township treasurer and clerk. He was also a charter member of the Founders of Lutheran High School in Mayer.
An active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Howard served in several church offices.
Howard is survived by his loving wife, Vernice; and children and spouses: Harlan Menth of Southgate, Mich.; Geraldine and Stan Nelson of Alpena, Mich.; Christelle Menth and Alfred Born of Lakewood, Colo.; and Kenneth Menth of Arvada, Colo.
He is further survived by his grandchildren: Jason and Ashley Menth of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; Eric and Adina Nelson of Anchorage, Alaska; Nathan Nelson of Alpena, Mich.; and Sarah Born of Lakewood, Colo.; great-grandchildren Molly, Paul, and Abigail Menth of St. Clair Shores, Mich; sisters Viola Breyer of Glencoe and Gladys Schmidt of Waconia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law LeIsle and Dahle Plocher of Waconia; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Hulda Menth; brother and sister-in-law Lorin and Lilah Menth, and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Otto Breyer, Harold Zellman, Donald and Gladys Domres, and Winfried Rolf.
