DeRoyce Floyd Frank Monroe
After battling cancer, DeRoyce Floyd Frank Monroe, 66, of Lester Prairie, entered his eternal rest Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
DeRoyce was born in Glencoe February 20, 1938 the son of Frank Jr. and Christina (Jannusch) Monroe.
He was baptized March 13, 1938 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie by the Rev. J.A. Shert and confirmed into the Christian faith April 6, 1952 at the same church by Rev. W. L. Erb.
DeRoyce attended country school and St. Peter Lutheran Parochial School before entering the Lester Prairie High School.
Following graduation in 1956 he continued his education at the University of Minnesota from 1960 through 1964. DeRoyce also served in the Minnesota Army National Guard for 20 years from 1956 through 1976, where he attained the rank of Major.
He was united in marriage to Janice Larson September 15, 1962 at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis by the Rev. C. Johnson. Prior to returning to Lester Prairie in 1970 the couple resided in Eden Prairie for four years.
He was employed for some 38 years at Lester Building Systems and after his formal retirement he worked part-time at the Home Depot in Chaska.
DeRoyce was very active in his community serving as a Civic and Commerce member, a member of the Lester Prairie Lions, and on the Lester Prairie School Board.
As an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church since 1970, he held several varied offices for the past 34 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister Dolores Arnold.
Surviving are his loving wife Janice, son Michael (Nikki) Monroe of Valrico, Fla., and daughter Kara (Shawn) Brandt of New Prague; grandchildren Abigail, Tessa, and Maxwell Monroe, and Morgan and Adam Brandt; sister Evelyn (Wally) Ruschke of Glencoe; brother Eugene (Barbara) Monroe of Jacksonville, Ore.
DeRoyce is further survived by brother-in-law Andrew Arnold of Hackensack, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Robert and Bernice VanDerzee of Sarasota, Fla., and Myron and Shirley Larson of Garfield; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services for DeRoyce F. Monroe were Friday, July 2, 2004 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with Rev. Herman Hannemann officiating. The Crucifer was Ralph Machemehl and the organist was Jane Holasek.
Congregational hymns were “Just As I Am, Without one Plea,” “Jerusalem, The Golden,” “The Nunc Dimittis,” and “O Savior, Precious Savior.”
Casketbearers were Ed Mlynar, Jon Schwichtenberg, Ron Foust, Lannie Grages, Gary Rehmann, and Gordon Birkholz, Sr.
Visitation was Thursday evening at the church, and interment was in the church cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
