Felix W. Nowak

Felix W. Nowak, age 74, of rural Silver Lake, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004 at the Hutchinson Area Health Center.

He was born Dec. 17, 1929 in Hale Township, McLeod County, the son of Louis and Louise Pokornowski Nowak.

Felix was baptized at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Silver Lake.

He lived his entire life in Hale Township, McLeod County.

Felix and Elmerine R. Brose were joined in holy marriage Oct. 14, 1950, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with five children.

Felix farmed for many years. He also was employed as a milk truck driver, and later, worked at Mid-America Dairymen in Winsted for 27 years, retiring in 1992.

Felix enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, watching wrestling on TV, and gardening, especially raising raspberries, strawberries and grapes.

He was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, and also belonged to Knights of Columbus Mother Cabrini Council 1841.

Felix is survived by his loving wife, Elmerine R. Nowak; children: Donna Schultz and Bruce (Doreen) Nowak, all of Silver Lake, Harvey (Joyce) Nowak of Howard Lake, Melvin (Cindy) Nowak of Cokato, and Beverly (Tom) Hoffmann of Winsted; 11 grandchildren: Carrie (Tom) Chap, Joshua Schultz, Merisa (Jon) Stifter and Aaron Schultz; Jeffrey (Jennifer) Nowak, Holly (Mike) Wanous and Heidi (Adam) Tellers; Adam and Nathan Nowak; and Stephanie and Ryan Hoffmann; six great-grandchildren: Tyler Chap, Cameron Chap and Tess Chap; Jackson Stifter, Katie Nowak, and William Wanous; and a step-grandchild, Nicole Hoffmann.

He is further survived by three brothers: Edmund (Bernadine) Nowak and Louis (Yvonne) Nowak, all of Silver Lake, and Clarence (Margie) Nowak of Neosho, Mo.; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Felix was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Louise Nowak; an infant brother, Joseph; son-in-law Gordy Schultz; parents-in-law Adalbert and Isabelle Brose; and brothers-in-law Stephen Brose and Cletus Horstmann.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Oct. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Father Robert J. Mraz was the celebrant, and interment followed at Holy Family Cemetery.

Kim Nowak was the reader for the Mass, and Steve Nowak was the eucharistic minister. Felix’s three sons were the gift bearers, and Val Shamla was the organist.

Friends called Friday, Oct. 22 from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake. A Knights of Columbus rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m., followed by a parish prayer service at 8 p.m.

Casket bearers were Felix’s grandsons and a nephew: Jeff Nowak, Joshua Schultz, Aaron Schultz, Adam Nowak, Nathan Nowak, and Ervin Nowak.

The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake served the family.
