Erma Eileen Oakley
Erma Eileen Oakley, age 82 of Winsted, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at St. Mary’s Care Center, Winsted.
Erma was born Sept. 2, 1921, in Canton, S.D. to Charles and Ethel (Sellers) Saunders. She grew up on the family farm in Beresford, and graduated from high school in 1941.
Erma was baptized and confirmed in 1964 at St. John’s Church in Young America.
She was united in marriage to Everett Oakley April 29, 1943, while he was still serving in the United States Army. The couple lived on Grand Avenue in St. Paul, on Colfax in North Minneapolis, and then settled in Norwood in June 1962.
Erma enjoyed gardening and her flowers.
Erma entered the nursing home two week sago, where she passed away having reached the age of 82 years, seven months, and two days.
She is survived by her husband, Everett, who resides at St. Mary’s Care Center, Winsted; children, Jerry (Lucy) of Dunbar, Calif.; Ethel (Roger) Roepke of Howard Lake, Charles (Amy) of Maplewood, and Donald (Beth) of Tacoma, Wash.
Erma is further survived by 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a brother, Minno, of Missouri; sisters: Murial Salberg of Burnsville, Lorraine Rudnik of Streamwood, Ill., and Donna Mae Cusiak of Richfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles, one infant child; a sister Maxiene, an infant sister; a brother-in-law, John Rudnik, and brother-in-law Bill.
Funeral services were Thursday, April 8, 10 a.m., at New Life Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Steve Kruse officiating. Music was by the Rev. Jane Meyer.
Casket bearers were Christopher Oakley, John Oakley, Leif Oakley, and Shawn Stai. Interment was in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
The Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake handled the arrangements.
