Gilbert W. Paschka
Gilbert W. Paschka, age 76 of Watertown, died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia.
Gilbert was born Oct. 17, 1927 in Chaska, the son of Herman and Rose (Molnau) Paschka. He was baptized Dec. 4, 1927, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Chaska, by the Rev. Otto Kohn, and confirmed there April 6, 1941, also by Rev. Kohn.
He attended grade school at St. Peter’s Lutheran School in rural Watertown, and St. John’s Lutheran School, Chaska, graduating from Watertown High School in 1945.
Gilbert enlisted in the U.S. Navy for four years, and was stationed for 18 months in Japan, where he served in communications.
He was married to Marilyn H. Beneke June 19, 1965, at First Lutheran Church, Glencoe, by the Rev. Merlin Pohl.
Gilbert was employed by Meyer Brothers Dairy in Wayzata for over 30 years, before retiring in 1989.
He was one of the founders of Lutheran High School, Mayer, and served as a member of the delegate body for over 40 years, most recently serving on both the planning and building committees for the new fine arts addition.
Gilbert also served on the school board of St. Paul-St. Peter’s Lutheran School for over six years, as well as the church council and various other committees at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Watertown.
Some of Gilbert’s many interests and hobbies included bowling and church dart ball and softball. He was an avid reader, with a special interset in history and politics.
Family was very important to Gilbert, and he especially loved family vacations on the north shore of Lake Superior. He also valued the time he spent with his Bible study group at church. Gilbert loved to make people laugh with his stories and jokes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Rose Paschka; brothers Delmer, Gordon and wife, Ruth; and Wallace; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harry and Esther Beneke; and brother-in-law Ralph Beneke.
Gilbert is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; son and daughter-in-law Joel and Tara Paschka of Alexandria; daughter and son-in-law Jodi and Matthew Hoehne of Palatine, Ill.; and grandchildren Luke and Kaye Paschka, and Bethany, Karie, Ellie, and Rebekah Hoehne.
He is further survived by sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Grace Paschka of Burnsville, Nathalie Paschka of Waverly, and Shirley and Kenneth Krienke of Glencoe; his aunt Ruth Rannow of Glencoe, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Wednesday, July 7, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Watertown, with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating. Interment followed at National Cemetery, Fort Snelling.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home, Waconia.
