Florence Belle Pettit
Florence Belle Pettit, age 93 of Cokato, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004 at Cokato Manor.
Florence was born July 17, 1911, in Kingston, to George and Ida Mae (Harter) Tuey. She grew up in the Kingston, Dassel, and Cokato areas.
The couple lived in Stockholm Township until their first house burned down. After the fire, they lived in two boxcars for a time. They moved to what is now the Lee farm, north of Cokato, and lived there until 1947, when they moved to a farm on County Road 4.
In 1991, they moved to the apartments on the north side of Cokato Manor. Florence then moved to Brookridge Apartments for a short time, before settling in at the Cokato Manor.
A very active member of First Baptist Church in Cokato, Florence enjoyed reading, crocheting afghans, making rag rugs, and playing board games.
She was a very kind, generous, and giving person. Her house was always made available to her friends and family.
Florence is survived by her children: Lowell (Patricia) Pettit of Fridley, Janet (John) Anderson of Richmond, Donna DeSoto of Edmonds, Wash.; Glen Pettit of Maplewood, and Patricia (Richard) Uhlmann of Redding, Calif.
She is futher survived by her grandchildren: Pamela Pettit of St. Anthony, Phillip (Carol) Pettit of Sisters, Ore.; Geri Lynn (Orlando) Castanon of Austin, Texas; David (Connie) Anderson of Clearwater; Jim (Heather) Anderson of Sauk Rapids; Robert (Cindy) DeSoto of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; Dara (Curtis) Von Lossberg of Grass Valley, Calif.; Megan Pettit of Maplewood, Chadwick (Evelyn) Pettit of South Range, Wis.; Joshua (Rebecca) Pettit, and Shannon (Justin) Pettit, both of Superior, Wis.; 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Gladys Pettit of Cokato, and Lorraine Hall of Ardmore, Okla.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, a grandson, Jon DeSoto; and nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Cokato with the Rev. Dan Swanson officiating. Music was by Bonnie Johnson and Beth Roelofs. Interment was in Cokato City Cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers were James Anderson, Chadwick Pettit, Pamela Pettit, Geri Lynn Castanon, Shannon Pettit, Joshua Pettit, David Anderson, Robert DeSoto, Megan Pettit, Phillip Pettit, and Dara Von Lossberg.
Arrangements were by Swanson Peterson Funeral Home, Cokato and Howard Lake.
