Dora Anne Lillian Quast
Funeral services celebrating the life of Dora Quast, age 87, of Glencoe, were Sunday, Sept. 5, at First Ev. Lutheran Church in Glencoe. Dora died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004 at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
Dora Anne Lillian was born the daughter of William and Emma (Brinkmann) Bandemer June 21, 1917, in Helen Township. She was baptized July 8, 1917 at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Plato by Rev. Zielinski, and later confirmed into the faith March 29, 1931, at the same church by the Rev. Otto Eyrich. Dora’s confirmation verse was Psalm 27:1.
She graduated from Glencoe High School in 1934. After graduation, she was employed in secretarial work at the McLeod County Courthouse in Glencoe for six years.
Dora was united in marriage to Elmer Quast June 16, 1940 at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Plato by the Rev. J. H. Bunge. Dora and her husband engaged in farming in Bergen Twp. until 1988, when they retired and moved to Glencoe.
Dora and Elmer were members of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie until 1996, when they transferred their membership to First Lutheran in Glencoe.
Dora was active in many church activities, including the Ladies Aid at St. Peter Lutheran Church. She enjoyed embroidering, quilting, sewing, and gardening.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents, William and Emma; a great-grandson; brothers and sisters-in-law: Arthur and Mathilda Bandemer, Bernhard and Ida Bandemer, Edwin and Kathryn Bandemer, and Hubert and Christine Bandemer; and a son-in-law, Eugene Winkelmann.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer; three daughters: Norma Wilkelmann of Hector, Naomi Hanson (husband, James) of New Brighton, and Marcia Jopp (husband, Terry) of Winsted; grandchildren: Valerie Rieke (husband, John), Calvin Winkelmann (wife, Karen), Jared Winkelmann (wife, Heather), Duane Winkelmann (wife, Kimberly), Sheila Lack (husband, Brian), Kristine Hanson, Brian Hanson, Ryan Jopp, and Grady Jopp; great-grandchildren: Jennifer Rieke, Andrew Rieke, Lucas Rieke, Daryl Rieke, Shannon Rieke, Nathan Winkelmann, Eric Winkelmann, Daniell Winkelmann, Logan Winkelmann, Brianne Winnkelmann, Bridgette Winkelmann, Mitchell Lack, and Jordan Lack; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The Rev. Ron Mathison officiated at the 1:30 p.m. funeral service. The organist was Dawn Wolter, and the soloist was Lawrence Biermann, who sang “Asleep in Jesus.” Congregational hymns were “Nearer My God to Thee” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Visitation was Saturday evening, Sept. 3, at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
Serving as casektbearers were Calvin Winkelmann, Jared Winkelmann, Duane Winkelmann, Brian Hanson, Ryan Jopp, and Grady Jopp. Honorary casketbearers were Valerie Rieke, Sheila Lack, and Kristine Hanson.
Interment was in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Lester Prairie.
The Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe handled the arrangements.
