Raphael Leo Quast
Raphael Leo Quast, age 68, of rural Winsted, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004 at his residence.
He was born March 5, 1936 in Winsted Township, McLeod County, the son of John B. and Mary Neumann Quast.
Raphael graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1954.
He and Lorraine L. Wosmek were joined in holy marriage Oct. 22, 1960, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Silver Lake. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Raphael honorably served his country in the United States Armed Forces, and was discharged from the Army April 30, 1963.
Raphael and Lorraine engaged in dairy farming for many years. He lived on his family’s homestead his entire life.
Raphael enjoyed his family and friends, traveling, old time music, and playing cards and checkers.
He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, and belonged to Holy Trinity Court 1054 Catholic Order of Foresters.
Raphael is survived by his loving wife,: Lorraine L. Quast; children: Jan (Scott) Gavin of Chaska, Roger (Jana) Quast of Big Lake, Lynn (Dan) Zander of Howard Lake, and Loren Quast of Burnsville; and grandchildren Andelee and Brandon Quast, and Garrett and Jake Zander.
He is further survived by sisters and brothers: Mercedes Nowak and Alma Ogitzak, both of Silver Lake, Joe (Irene) Quast of Elk River, Theresa (Jim) Hance of Big Lake, John (Mary) Quast of Sanford, Mich.; and James (Sharon) Quast of Buffalo; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Rosella Quast of Winsted, Mary Quast of White Bear Lake, Phyllis (Larry) Ostendorf of Glencoe, Don (Christie) Wosmek of Phoenix, Ariz., and Eugene Wosmek of Dassel; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Raphael was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Quast; an infant brother, David; sisters Fidelia Schultz, Genevieve Schermann, and Clarine Strauss; brothers William “Bill” and Jerome Quast; and by his parents-in-law, Henry and Alice Wosmek.
A memorial Mass took place at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct, 20 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant, and entombment was in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted Tuesday, Oct. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. An American Legion ritual was at 7 p.m., followed by a Catholic Order of Foresters’ rosary, recited at 7:15 p.m., and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
