Leona C. Ruzicka
Leona C. Ruzicka, age 87, of Winsted, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 26, 2004 at St. Mary’s Care Center.
She was born Dec. 19, 1916 in Winsted Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Joseph and Rosalie Fasching Millerbernd.
Leona Millerbernd and Clifford Ruzicka Sr. were joined in holy marriage June 10, 1935, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Clifford and Leona engaged in farming for many years. Leona also worked every other weekend at their family’s business, The Blue Note Ballroom in Winsted.
She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted and belonged to its C.C.W.
Leona enjoyed gardening, and especially loved her flowers. She was also fond of crocheting, embroidering, quilting, and was a great cook.
She is survived by loving children: Clifford (Marie) Ruzicka Jr. of Winsted, Elizabeth Elaine Griffith of Riverside, Calif.; and Carol (Don) Cuhel of Winsted; 10 grandchildren: Doug (Monica) Ruzicka, Debbie (Frank) Habisch, Dale (Melody) Ruzicka, Daniel (Connie) Ruzicka, Donna (Dennis) Johnson, Dean (Jackie) Ruzicka, Kellie (James) Molina, Mark (Lisa) Cuhel, Michele (Lyle) Schesso, and Marcia (Norman) Geyer; 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Leona is further survived by her sisters, Elizabeth Quast of Maple Plain and Delphine (Ernest) Mallak of Silver Lake; a brother-in-law and sister-in law, Ray (Billie) Ruzicka of Winsted, and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Ruzicka Sr., Feb. 15, 2003; a son, Ralph R. Ruzicka Dec. 23, 2003; a great-grandchild, Tyler Donald Cuhel Feb. 1, 1996; her parents, Joseph B. and Rosalie Millerbernd; an infant sibling; three brothers: Edward, Frank, and Joseph Millerbernd; and six sisters: Lena Quast, Angela Rozeske, Marie Quast-Artmann, Regina Clann, Sophie Wawrzyniak, and Rosella “Sally” Hausladen.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Leona Ruzicka took place Saturday, Oct. 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant.Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Friends called Friday, Oct. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A prayer service took place at 7:30 p.m.
Casket bearers were Douglas, Dale, Daniel, and Dean Ruzicka; Mark Cuhel, and Lyle Schesso.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
