Lillian Helen “Billie” Ruzicka

Lillian Helen “Billie” Ruzicka of Winsted, died Sunday evening, Oct. 31, 2004 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

She was born in Glasgow, Mont., the daughter of Martin and Anna Marsolek Gritz.

Lillian “Billie” Gritz and Raymond A. Ruzicka were joined in holy marriage Oct. 14, 1942 in Buffalo.

Billie and Ray, along with Ray’s brother Clifford Ruzicka and wife Leona, owned and operated the Blue Note Ballroom in Winsted for many years.

Billie enjoyed traveling and fishing at their cabin on Birch Lake near Hackensack. Billie and Ray also spent five winters in Brownsville, Texas.

She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

Billie is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Raymond A. Ruzicka; a sister and brothers: Luella Eckelberry of Winsted, Francis “Fritz” Gritz of Waverly, and LeRoy “Hans” (Joan) Gritz of San Diego, Calif.; nieces; nephews; great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Anna Gritz; brothers: George (Vicky), Raphael, and Barney (Betty) Gritz; sisters Anastasia Schermann and Frances “Babe” Gritz; sister-in-law Mae Gritz; father-in-law and mother-in-law Louis and Josephine Ruzicka, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Clifford and Leona Ruzicka.

A Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant. Entombment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Friends called Tuesday, Nov. 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A prayer service took place at 7:30 p.m.

Casket bearers were Jeff Gritz, Harold Engle, Jim Gritz, Clifford Ruzicka Jr., Donald Cuhel, and Steve Moe.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
