Gladys L. (Zellmann) Schmidt obituary, 9/13/04


Gladys L. (Zellmann) Schmidt, age 82 of New Germany and Lester Prairie, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004 at Auburn West in Waconia.
She was born July 26, 1922, at Mayer, the daughter of Christian and Hulda (Lippert) Menth. She was baptized at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, by the Rev. Theodore Rolf; and confirmed by the same April 5, 1936.
Gladys married Harold (Harry) Zellmann at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany. She and Harry owned a business in New Germany for 25 years.
Gladys was also employed by Tonka Toys, Coast-to-Coast Stores in Hopkins, and as a waitress at Town’s Edge Cafe, Mayer, for many years.
She was very active in the New Germany community, and was a member of the New Germany American Legion Auxiliary.
Gladys is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Wayne Schmidt of Waconia; grandchildren: Kim and Troy Goede, Kris and Bruce Dunham, Michelle Justice, and Tracy Schmidt; and great-grandchildren: Amber and special friend Ted Johnson, Dustin, Matt, Danielle, Laton, Carter, and Austin.
She is further survived by her sister, Viola Breyer of Glencoe; a sister-in-law, Vernice Menth of New Germany, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Harry; parents Christian and Hulda Menth; brothers Lorin, and wife Lilah, Menth, and Howard Menth; and brother-in-law Otto Breyer.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m., at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, with the Rev. Allen Holthus officiating. Interment followed at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery, New Germany.
Serving as casketbearers were Allen Menth, Darrel Menth, Dan Menth, Dan Heckmann, Leon Brinkman, and Tom Feltmann.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home, Waconia.
