Viona Schramm obituary, 6/4/04


Viona Schramm, age 81, of Hutchinson, passed away Friday, June 4, 2004, at Rev. Erwin and Glorian Sprengeler’s home in Green Isle.
Viona Wiebke Schramm was born April 4, 1923, in Bergen Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Gustave and Emma (Lueck) Wiebke. She was baptized as an infant, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth April 4, 1937, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato.
Viona received her education at Glencoe School District #19, and graduated from Glencoe High School.
She attended the Minneapolis Business College in Minneapolis.
Viona was united in marriage to Dr. Gerhard Ernst of Buffalo, April 26, 1941, at the Pelican Lake Lutheran Church in Buffalo.
Gerhard entered the United States Navy Feb. 13, 1942, and Viona resided in San Francisco, Calif. while Gerhard was serving his country in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. She held employment at Dunn & Broadstreet in San Francisco.
Viona and Gerhard shared three years of marriage until Lieutenant Ernst was killed in battle in the Philippines Dec. 28, 1944.
Viona was united in marriage to Orville Schramm July 1, 1950, in Plato. Viona and Orville resided and farmed in rural Glencoe. Viona and Orville shared 40 years of marriage until Orville passed away Oct. 28, 1990.
Viona was employed by Green Giant in Glencoe for eight years, and at Young America Corporation in Norwood for 10 years.
She was a member of many local senior citizens clubs. Viona loved to dance, travel, shop and drive her car.
When Viona needed assistance with her daily needs, she lived with her niece, Glorian Sprengeler, in Green Isle.
Viona is survived by her dearest friend and caregiver, Robert Baumetz of Hutchinson; nieces: Aileene Dammann and husband, Earl; and Eldana Soeffker and husband, Gilbert, all of Glencoe; and Glorian Sprengeler and husband, Rev. Erwin, of Green Isle; nephews: Wilton Stuedemann and wife, Betty, of Plato; Gerald Stuedemann and wife, Gail, of Gaylord; and Randy Ernst and wife, Barbara, of Buffalo; brother-in-law Milton Ernst and wife, Doris, of Buffalo; and sisters-in-law Dorothy Rose and Violet Schramm, both of Glencoe.
She is further survived by her dearest friends, Lowell and Bonnie Baumetz of Hutchinson, Norma and Jerald Forsberg of Dassel, Daniel and Katie Baumetz of Hutchinson, and Stan and Charlotte Ehrke of Lester Prairie; and many other relatives and friends.
Viona is preceded in death by her parents, Gustave Wiebke and Emma (Wiebke) Koch; stepfather, Carl Koch; husband, Gerhard Ernst; husband, Orville Schramm; and sister, Hilda Stuedemann.
Funeral services were Monday, June 7, 11 a.m., at Vineyard United Methodist Church in Hutchinson, with interment in Oakland Cemetery, Hutchinson. Pastor Scott Daniels officiated at the funeral service. Organist was Joyce Piehl, and soloist Bonnie Baumetz sang “Life’s Railway To Heaven,” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace,” and “The Lord Of The Dance.”
Casket bearers were Sheldon Ehrke, Greg Stuedemann, Randy Ernst, Joel Zellman, and Jay Soeffker
Arrangements were by Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson.
