Jeannine Sue Scrimgeour obituary, 5/4/04


It is with a sad heart that we say good-bye to our mother, grandmother and sister, Jeannine Sue Scrimgeour, age 73, who passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.
Jeannine was born Oct. 5, 1930, to Fred and Lorna (Schleuder) Naumann in Minneapolis. Jeannine’s family moved to New Ulm when she was 10 years old, where she attended the New Ulm public school, graduating from there in 1948.
That fall, she attended the Miss Woods Academy (Macalester College) and earned an elementary teaching degree. She taught her first kindergarten class in Sioux Falls, S.D. in 1950.
Working for the New Ulm Summer Recreation program, Jeannine (Jean) met William A. Scrimgeour II. Jean and Bill were united in marriage at the First Congregational Church in New Ulm July 29, 1951. They made their home in Lester Prairie, where they purchased and operated the Scrimgeour Rexall Drug.
Besides assisting with the family business, Jeannine taught kindergarten at Lester Prairie for several years.
In 1960, Jeannine was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She faced her illness bravely for over 40 years.
She had a strong faith and found comfort attending the Lester Prairie United Church of Christ worship services and Bible study groups.
Jeannine loved family gatherings, playing cards, reading, fishing and boating, and watching her favorite ‘soap opera.’
She is survived by her loving family: daughters, Laurie (Lawrence) Lewandowski of Detroit Lakes, and Judy (John) Schoeneberger of Crookston; sons, William (Barb) Scrimgeour III of Eden Prairie, Richard (Katy) Scrimgeour of St. Bonifacious, and James (Sally) Scrimgeour of Waconia; a brother, Fred (Sally) Naumann of Hailey, Idaho; and a sister, Nancy (Chuck) Williams of Tracy.
Jeannine is further survived by her grandchildren: Gina (Barry) Simonson, Wade (Amber) Lewandowski, Laura Schoeneberger, Anna Schoeneberger, Michael Schoeneberger, William Scrimgeour IV, Addy Scrimgeour, Tyler Scrimgeour, Mitchell Scrimgeour, Jared Scrimgeour, and Jade Scrimgeour; one great-granddaughter, Taya Joy Lewandowski; and three nieces:Tam (Rick) Schons, Pam (Kendall) Cooreman, and Margaret Tollner.
Jeannine was preceded in death by her husband, William; her father and mother; and a brother, Robert Naumann.
Funeral services were Friday, May 7, at 11 a.m. at the Prairie Community Church of Christ, Lester Prairie, with the Rev. Bill Baldwin officiating. Interment was at the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation was one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday.
