Malinda Laura Mathilda Seemann obituary, 6/28/04


Malinda Laura Mathilda Seemann, age 102, of Glencoe, and formerly of Lester Prairie, died Monday, June 28, 2004 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
She was born Sept. 12, 1901 in Winsted Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Charles and Minnie Wilkowski Schmalz.
Malinda was baptized in September 1901, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bergen Township, McLeod County, by the Rev. Gerhardt Buescher. Her sponsors were Mathilda Ernst, Laura Staples, and Albert Thiel.
She was instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith March 28, 1915, by the Rev. Walter Baumhoefener at the same church. Her confirmation memory verse was Psalm 27:1.
Malinda and Arthur Seemann were joined in holy marriage May 22, 1921 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church. God blessed their marriage with four children.
The couple engaged in dairy farming in Bergen Township for many years.
Malinda was a lifelong member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, and a long-time member of the Ladies Aid.
She assisted her pastor many times as chapel organist at nursing home services. Through the years, Malinda was a substitute organist at St. Peter’s and often played for its German services.
She also volunteered at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care and at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
Malinda is survived by her children: Deloris Seemann of Glencoe, Clarence A. (Lorraine) Seemann of Winsted, and LorJean (Verndale) Selchow of Lester Prairie; grandchildren: Robert Seemann, Paul Seemann, Merri Lea (Barry) Kyllo, and Laurie Slama; Roger Ernst, Linda (Michael) White, Ronald Ernst, Karla (Mark) Hartman and Lisa (John) Curtin; Gary (Cindy) Selchow, Lee (Linda) Selchow, Kevin (Karen “Kay”) Selchow, Ann (Russ) Williamson, and Sherri Selchow; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including her son-in-law, Reuben Ernst of Glencoe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Seemann, Jan. 29, 1963; a daughter, Bernice Ernst; a grandson, Allan Selchow; her parents, Charles and Minnie Schmalz; and three sisters: Odella “Dell” Flemming, Dorothea “Dora” Seemann, and Elinore Schert.
Funeral services were Thursday, July 1, 11 a.m., at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. The Rev. Gerald A. Schwanke officiated, and interment followed at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lester Prairie.
Kay Gueningsman was the organist for the funeral service. Congregational hymns were “I Know that My Redeemer Lives,” “Jesus Lives! The Victory’s Won,” “For Me to Live is Jesus,” and “Beautiful Savior.”
Friends called Wednesday, June 30, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted.
Honorary casket bearer was Gary Selchow.
Active casket bearers were Ronald Ernst, Roger Ernst, Robert Seemann, Paul Seemann, Kevin Selchow, and Lee Selchow.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
