Marion Kenneth Shrode obituary, 7/20/04


Marion Kenneth Shrode, age 92 of Lester Prairie, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Elim Home of Watertown.
Marion was born Oct. 25, 1911 in Bergen Township, McLeod County, the son of Allen B. and Augusta P. (Schwartz) Shrode. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America by the Rev. W. Kramer.
After high school, Marion continued his education at St. Cloud Teachers College, and taught in rural schools in McLeod and Carver counties for seven years.
Marion was united in marriage to Dorothy Ann Lindenberg June 16, 1937.
For 34 years, he was employed at Graco, Inc. in Minneapolis, where he served as its traffic manager until mandatory retirement at the age of 65.
In October 1983, Dorothy Ann died and Marion returned to his native Lester Prairie.
He was united in marriage to Thelma A. (Reed) May 4, 1984, at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Lester Prairie.
For the past three weeks, Marion had spent both time in the hospital and at Elim Home, and it was there that he entered his eternal rest at the age of 92 years, eight months, and 25 days.
He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Dorothy Ann; a son, Russell; a brother, Leroy Shrode; as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in law.
Marion is survived by his wife Thelma; a daughter, Judith Dahms (husband: Eugene) of Redwood Falls, a daughter-in-law, Teri Shrode of Sauk Rapids; grandchildren: Jennifer Alders (husband: Jason), Brian Dahms (wife: Melissa), Michael Shrode and Samuel Shrode; and six great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by a brother, Gordon Shrode (wife: Joyce) of Lester Prairie; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Edwin Lindenberg of Delano, Marvin and Isabelle Lindenberg of Howard Lake, William Lindenberg of Excelsior, Gilbert Lindenberg of Minnetonka, Lucille Stender of Waconia, and Margie Stender of Delano; step-children: Douglas Shrode (wife: Linda) of Carson City, Nev.; Dale Shrode (wife: Kathy) of Excelsior, Joyce Winter (husband: Richard) of Lester Prairie, Jayne Mlynar (husband: Robert) of Aitkin, and Jeannie Shrode of Reno, Nev.; step-grandchildren: Rhonda Tesch (husband: Tim), Taylor Shrode, Ahnna Shrode, Travis Winter (wife: Jessi), Justin Winter, Kyle Mlynar, and Brett Mlynar; as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Friday, July 23 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. Jane Holasek was the organist, and the congregation sang “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” Soloist Chuck Thiel sang “How Great Thou Art” and “The Old Rugged Cross.”
Visitation took place Thursday, July 22 at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Casketbearers were Justin Winter, Travis Winter, Brian Dahms, Samuel Shrode, Michael Shrode, Brett Mlynar, and Kyle Mlynar.
Honorary bearer was Taylor Shrode.
Arrangements were by Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
