Mathilda M. Speckel, 12/14/04


Mathilda M. Speckel, age 87 of Watertown, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
She was born June 19, 1917 to Andrew and Julia (Quast) Fasching in Winsted.
Mathilda was united in marriage to John Speckel May 11, 1949. They made their home in Watertown, where they were members of the Immaculate Conception Catholic church for over 56 years.
An active member of the Legion Auxiliary Post 121 of Watertown for approximately 54 years, Mathilda was also very much a part of the Watertown Senior Citizens group, where she looked forward to spending time with close friends.
Prior to losing her sight, crocheting, sewing, and cookies were hobbies she enjoyed. Her sharp sense of humor and notable laugh will be missed.
Mathilda was preceded in death by her husband, John; brothers Martin, Frank, Andrew H., Leonard, Ted, Tony, and Vincent; and sister Agnes Conrad.
She is survived by four sisters-in-law: Ann Fasching, Marcella Fasching, Margie Fasching, and Loretta Speckel, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, Dec. 16 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Watertown with the Rev. Frank Wampach officiating. Music was provided by the church choir and Mary Lou Jirik, organist. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation was Thursday, prior to the funeral service at the church.
Serving as casket bearers were Allen Ramola, Donald Fasching, George Ramola, Stefan Jaskowiak, Eugene Fasching, and Ron Zachmann.
The Iten Funeral Home in Watertown handled the arrangements.
