Carl H. Stoppelman obituary, 3/12/04


Carl H. Stoppelman, age 86, of Buffalo, died Friday, March 12, 2004 at the Buffalo Hospital.
Carl was born in Monticello Township, Wright County, Jan. 29, 1918, the son of Carl “Charlie” and Julia Block Stoppelman. He was baptized March 24, 1918 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Monticello, by the Rev. R. Schierenbeck. Carl was also instructed in the Lutheran catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith Aug. 14, 1932 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Buffalo, by the Rev. W. Sauer.
Carl was united in marriage to Beulah Marquette April 29, 1942, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Buffalo. Their marriage was blessed with two children.
Carl farmed his entire life. He also formerly worked at The Buffalo Veneer Plant and at Buffalo Block.
He enjoyed fishing and was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, 10 1/2 months, Beulah; a daughter, Arlene (Byron) Shepard of Nisswa; a son, Dean Stoppelman of Buffalo; grandchildren Cindy and Chris Stoppelman; two great-grandchildren, Adrian and Ariana; a sister, Hazel Spike of Buffalo; sister-in-law Doris Stoppelman of Brainerd; sisters-in-law Myrtle Gruenhagen of Howard Lake, Donna O’Flanagan of Buffalo, and Clarion Conzet of Rockford; brothers-in-law Percy Marquette and August Bruska, both of Buffalo, and Elton Gruenhagen of Howard Lake; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents: Charlie and Julia Stoppelman, sisters Hattie and Agnes Marquette and Frieda Moss, and brothers Edwin, Arthur, Rueben, LeRoy and Ernie Stoppelman.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 16, 2 p.m., at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Buffalo, with the Revs. James Disney and Christian Bode officiating. Interment followed at Lakeview Cemetery.
Friends called Monday, Feb. 15, at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. A prayer service was at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continued one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Honorary casket bearers were Cindy and Chris Stoppelman, Shirley Harff, Brian and Glenn Gruenhagen, and Clyde Payne.
Active casket bearers were Orval Payne, Jerry Stoppelman, Darryl Stoppelman, Ernest “Buck” Marquette, Charles Stoppelman, Harlen Frykholm, Kenneth Spike, and David Stoppelman.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
