Helen M. Strehlke, age 100 of New Germany, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 at Elim Home in Watertown.
She was born April 27, 1904 in Camden Township, Carver County, the daughter of Herman and Helena (Schultz) Schubert. She was baptized at her parents’ home May 7, 1904, by the Rev. Theo Rolf, and confirmed by the same March 24, 1918, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany.
Helen married Walter C. Strehlke June 15, 1922, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, by the Rev. Theo Rolf.
Helen enjoyed crocheting, playing the piano, and playing the organ in church at an early age. She also enjoyed singing in the church choir, and loved to dance.
She and her husband, Walter, were custodians at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, for many years.
Helen is survived by her grandson, Larry, and his wife, Carmen, of Lester Prairie; great-grandchildren Tony Schultz, Jayson and Tina Schultz, and Jacqueline and Dave Wroge; great-great-grandchildren Shallimar, Ryan, Beth, Dylan, Adam, and Leah; and nephew and niece-caregivers, Vernon and Darlene Strehlke of New Germany.
She is further survived by sisters-in-law Argoldie Schubert and Edna Schubert, both of Lester Prairie, Alice Kubasch of Watertown, and Cordella Spomer of Delano; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Walter C. Strehlke; daughter and son-in-law, Corinne and Elmer Schultz; sisters Alice Henke, Lydia Schubert, and Malinda Strehlke; and brothers Lorence, Willie, and Wilmer Schubert.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, with the Rev. Allen Holthus officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers were her grandson and great-grandchildren: Larry Schultz, Tony Schultz, Jayson and Tina Schultz, and Jacqueline and Dave Wroge.
The Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia handled the arrangements.
