Howard Henry Wroge, age 82 of Shorewood, and formerly of Lester Prairie, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia.
Howard was born March 9, 1922 in Lester Prairie, to Henry and Magdalena (Miller) Wroge. He lived with his family and farmed outside Lester Prairie until he was 23 years old.
He and Jeanette Johnson were married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, June 9, 1945. Howie and Jeanette had 59 happy years together.
After they left the farm, they lived in Glencoe, Granite Falls, Minneapolis and Excelsior, where Howard worked for various businesses with Ford Motor Company. They built a home in Minnewashta Heights in 1956, where they resided for 43 years.
Howie enjoyed baseball, bowling, refereeing basketball, dancing, playing cards, fishing and hunting with a crooked gun. He managed the St. Bonifacious baseball team for many years.
Throughout his life, Howie enjoyed the company of many friends at their lake cabin on Crooked Lake, near Brainerd.
He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Shorewood.
Howard is survived by wife Jeanette, daughters JoAnn (Denny) Sunde of Annandale, and Jan (Loel) Olson of LuVerne; son Brad (Donna) Wroge of Chaska, and six grandchildren: Tanya Schmieg, Kristi Wroge, Chris Hatler, and Zach, Paige and Gunnar Olson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a son, Jed.
Funeral services were Friday, July 9, at 11 a.m., at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Shorewood.
Visitation was Thursday, July 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Huber Funeral Home, Excelsior, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment was at Woodside Cemetery, Shorewood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Alzheimer’s Research Group or Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
