Ferdinand Ellsworth Berg obituary, 2/8/05


Ferdinand Ellsworth Berg, age 97 of Buffalo and formerly of Cokato and Howard Lake, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005 at Parkview Care Center, Buffalo.
He was born Aug. 5, 1907 in Cokato to Henry and Esther (Nelson) Berg. Ferdinand grew up on the farm south of Cokato in the Rice Lake area. He attended school at South Grass Lake, and went on to graduate from Cokato High School as class salutorian for the class of 1924.
Following graduation, Ferdinand began a lifelong career in farming. During this time, he also sold seed corn and insurance.
Ferdinand was married to Mavis Johnson June 19, 1943 at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in St. Paul.
He was a very active member of his current church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cokato.
Ferdinand received excellent care from the staff at Park View Care Center in Buffalo for 11 years.
Ferdinand is survived by his sons, Paul, Henry (Joyce), Stan (Nancy), Jeffrey, and Kevin; grandchildren, Jonathan (Nicole) Berg, Stephanie (Christopher) Koivisto, Christopher Berg, and Michelle Lorentz; and great-grandchildren Samuel, Joseph and Jackson Berg, and Renee and Zachariah Koivisto.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Esther; wife Mavis; sons Henry Cornell and Julian; granddaughter Whitney, and brother Henry Wilford.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at Evangelical Church of Cokato with the Rev. David Sorensen officiating. Music was by Karen Anderson and Nicole Berg. Interment followed at the Cokato City Cemetery.
Visitation took place one hour prior to the service at the church.
Casket bearers were Christopher Berg, Henry Berg, Stan Berg, Jeff Berg, Kevin Berg, and Jonathan Berg.
Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Cokato and Howard Lake.
