Duane Henry Berg

Duane Henry Berg, age 74 of Howard Lake, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

He was born April 3, 1931 in Albion Township to Henry and Hildur (Anderson) Berg, and spent his childhood on the home place at Albion. Duane was baptized and confirmed at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church.

He went to Camp Lake Country School and then Howard Lake High School, graduating with the class of 1949.

Duane was married to Victoria (Vickie) Narr Sep. 17, 1950 by the Rev. Theo Melinat at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.

Prior to his marriage, Duane drove milk truck for a time. The couple then spent their life together farming.

Duane was very active in the Minnesota Valley Breeders Association, serving on the executive board; Minnesota Select Sires, serving as the first president; and Gideon Bibles International. He was the Albion Township supervisor for many years; a member of the Farm Bureau, DHIA, the American Dairy Association, and always active in his church, serving on the council, as a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the choir.

Duane enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, fishing, and music.

He is survived by his wife, Victoria, of Cokato; and children, Joey (Connie) Berg of Howard Lake, Jayne (Dan) Kyllonen of Howard Lake, Julianne (Tom) Marcsisak of Waconia, and Jacquelyn (Donn) Dierks of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Duane is further survived by grandchildren Jami (Sarah) Berg, Cari (Joe) Backes, Candice (Brendan) Dolan, Jeffrey (Andrea) Kyllonen, Jodi Kyllonen, Tara Marcsisak, Tiffany Marcsisak, Tonya Marcsisak, Devin Dart, Crystal Dierks, and Savannah Dierks; and great-grandchildren, Madelyn Backes, Samuel Backes, and Erica Kyllonen.

In addition, Duane is survived by a sister, Luella (Dale)Vitalis of Moorhead, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cokato with the Rev. Steven Josephson officiating. Music was by Belinda Kaye. Interment followed in Mt. Hermon Lutheran Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Joe Backes, Jami Berg, Devin Dart, Brendan Dolan, Jeffrey Kyllonen, and Steven Vitalis.

Arrangements were by Swanson Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato and Howard Lake.
