Lorraine June Birkholz
Lorraine June Birkholz, age 78 of Lester Prairie, died Thursday, March 24, 2005 at the Elim Nursing Home in Watertown.
She was born June 19, 1926 in Silver Lake, the daughter of Frank and Christine (Slama) Zrust. She was baptized and confirmed at the Silver Lake Presbyterian Church.
Lorraine graduated from the Silver Lake High School.
She was united in marriage to Roland Birkholz Aug. 15, 1947 at the Zrust family residence. The couple lived in California for a short time, before moving to Lester Prairie.
Lorraine was employed by Tonka Toys. She also worked with her husband as a bookkeeper for their construction business. In addition, Lorraine was also employed by the phone company, JC Penny and 3M.
After retirement, Lorraine kept busy by helping out in the grade school and working for the City of Watertown.
An active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lorraine participated in the Women’s League.
She will be remembered by many for her kind, sweet, and peaceful personality. She was a care provider for many family and friends.
Lorraine enjoyed both flower and vegetable gardening, and cooking for her family. Sharing meals as a family was very important to Lorraine.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Christine Zrust; husband Roland; son Craig; daughter Ann; four children in infancy; brothers Earl, Fred, Frank and LeRoy; and sisters Helen, Harriet, and Irene.
She is survived by her children: Pam Cook (husband Dale) of Brooklyn Park, June Yarbrough of Shakopee, and Reed Birkholz (wife Wanda) of Lester Prairie; grandchildren Timothy Becker (wife Vanessa) of Norwood Young America, James Becker of Seattle, Wash.; Christina Becker of Shakopee, and Amber Birkholz of Lester Prairie; and great-grandchild Cole Becker.
Lorraine is further survived by sisters Mildred Plihal of Hutchinson, and Camella Rinella of Millbrook, Ala.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Bruce Birkholz (wife Carolyn) of Lester Prairie, Marvel Workman of Nisswa, Orval Birkholz of Lester Prairie, Clarice Carlbom of Stockton, Calif.; and Carol Bruckschen (husband Roland) of Lester Prairie; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services celebrating her life were Monday March 28 at 2 p.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. The organist was Marcia Christenson. Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art,” “In The Garden,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Amazing Grace.” Interment followed in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers were Dale Cook and Scott Rech.
Visitation took place two hours prior to the funeral service.
Arrangements were with the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
