Viola Martha Rosa Breyer
Viola Martha Rosa Breyer, age 92 of Lester Prairie, died Tuesday April 5, 2005 at the Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care Unit.
Viola was born Jan. 15, 1913, the daughter of Christian and Hulda (Lippert) Menth in Mayer. She was baptized Feb. 16, 1913 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. F. W. Erthal; and confirmed in the faith May 15, 1927 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. T. Rolf.
Viola was united in marriage with Otto E. Breyer June 23, 1937 at the St. Mark Lutheran Church by the Rev. Rolf. To this union were born three daughters Clarice, Lorna, and Annette.
The couple made their home in Bergen Township, rural Lester Prairie, where they were engaged in fanning.
After Otto’s death in January 1981, Viola moved to a home in Lester Prairie, where she lived until 2001, when she became a resident at the Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care Unit.
She was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie, and its Ladies Aid since joining membership in 1937. She was also active in the Lester Prairie Senior Citizens.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, playing bingo, and quilting. Viola had shared many quilts with family, friends, and donations through church.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Hulda; her husband, Otto; grandchild Amy Brinkman, brothers Lorin Menth and Howard Menth, and sister Gladys Schmidt.
She is survived by her daughters, Clarice Heckmann (husband Dan) of Albert Lea, Lorna Brinkman (husband Leon) of Glencoe, and Annette Feltmann (husband Thomas) of Lester Prairie; grandchildren: Robert Heckmann (wife Kim) of Eagan, Paul Heckmann of Highland Park, Gregg Brinkman of Glencoe, Bruce Brinkman (wife Jana) of Winona, Peter Feltmann (wife Christine) of Lester Prairie, Patrick Feltmann of Lester Prairie, and Sara Bauer (husband Peter) of Eagan.
Viola is further survived by great-grandchildren Anna and Elise Heckmann, Maddy Heckmann, Joe and Cal Brinkman, and Alyson, Brendan and Katelyn Feltmann; sister-in-law Vernice Menth of New Germany; as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services Friday, April 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with the Rev. Gerald Schwanke officiating. The organist was Kay Gueningsman. Soloist Lawrence Biermann sang “’Muede bin ich, geh zu ruh.” The congregational hymns were “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.” Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Visitation was Thursday evening, April 7, at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
Serving as casket bearers were Viola’s grandsons: Robert Heckmann, Paul Heckmann., Gregg Brinkman, Bruce Brinkman, Peter Feltmann, and Patrick Feltmann.
Arrangements were by the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
