Lois Eileene Bruckschen
Lois Eileene Bruckschen, age 96 of Glencoe, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
Funeral services are today, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Glencoe.
Lois was born Feb. 9, 1909 to Lorin and Helena Butler, the second of three children. She attended Glencoe Public Schools and graduated from Steven’s Seminary in 1927.
During her teenage years, she taught Sunday school and also sang in the choir in the church.
After graduation, she was employed as a long distance operator and later, as secretary to Jay Greaves in the local telephone office.
Lois was united in marriage with Herbert Bruckschen Sept. 28, 1929. They had two children, twin son and daughter Bob and Betty Bruckschen.
A member of First Congregational Church in Glencoe, Lois was president of the women’s fellowship for two terms, and resumed singing in the choir after her children were grown up. Except for a short time off, she has sung alto in the choir most of her adult life.
After her mother’s death from cancer, Lois became very active in the work of the McLeod County unit of the American Cancer Society for about 14 years.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister Myra Buss; and brother Lorin W. Butler.
She is survived by her children, Betty Bruckschen of Glencoe, and Bob Bruckschen (wife Sharon) of Arlington; and grandchildren Susan Maguire of Eagan; Sandra Bennett (husband M.C.) of Horses Cane, Ken.; and Shirley Steele (husband Mitch) of Arlington.
She is further survived by great-grandchildren Sarah Ann Maguire, Daniel Maguire, Jacquelyn Bennett, Brian Bennett, Nathan Bennett, Tyler Schwartz; great-great-grandchildren Gage and Jada Birch; sister-in-law LuVerna Bruckschen; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The Rev. William Baldwin will officiate at the funeral service. Lon Roach is the organist, and congregational hymns are “In The Garden,” “Just A Closer Walk With Thee,” “Amazing Grace,” “Precious Lord,” and “How Great Thou Art.” Interment is in the Glencoe cemetery.
Visitation took place Sunday evening, Aug. 7, at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
Casket bearers are Roland Bruckschen, Dennis Bruckschen, Ernie Bruckschen, Leland Ostlie, Junior Ostlie, and Roger Ostlie. Honorary casket bearer is William Buss.
