Edna Emma Butterfass

Edna Emma Butterfass, age 88 of Howard Lake, died Thursday, May 26, 2005 at the Glencoe hospital.

She was born June 16, 1916 in Howard Lake, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Krauel) Dehnbostel.

A life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, Edna was baptized July 16, 1916 by the Rev. A. L. Oetjen, and confirmed in her faith April 30, 1930 by the Rev. C. G. Seltz.

Edna was united in marriage to Harold Butterfass Aug. 30, 1941 by the Rev. Eugene Seltz. This union was blessed with three children.

Edna and Harold made their home and living on a farm south of Howard Lake, where Edna was active on the farm and as a housewife and mother.

She enjoyed gardening and embroidering.

As a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Edna helped assemble the monthly newsletter, as well as serving on luncheon and work committees when needed.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Emma Dehnbostel; husband Harold; and two brothers, William and Walter Dehnbostel.

She is survived by her children, Judy (Jerome) Diers of Princeton, Ill.; Dennis (Nancy) Butterfass of Howard Lake, and Linda (Wallace) Krienke of Waverly; and eight grandchildren, Peter (Stephanie) Diers, Aaron (Amanda) Diers, Abbie (Brian) Chaon, Bret Butterfass, Sara Butterfass, Jackie Krienke, Brian Krienke, and Julie Krienke.

Edna is further survived by three great grandchildren, Annaliesa Diers, Christopher Diers and Ian Diers; two sisters, Esther Lorentz and Eva Glessing; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Wednesday, June 1 at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. Luke Dahl served as the organist. Interment followed at the St. James Cemetery on Dutch Lake.

Pallbearers were Edna’s grandchildren: Peter Diers, Aaron Diers, Abbie Chaon, Bret Butterfass, Sara Butterfass, Jackie Krienke, Brian Krienke and Julie Krienke.

The Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake served the family.
