Gary D. Carlson
Gary D. Carlson, age 55, of Henderson, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005 after a long illness.
He was born March 7, 1950 in Hutchinson, the son of Herbert W. and Madeline M. Muth Carlson.
Gary attended Holy Trinity Elementary School in Winsted, and high school in Moose Lake.
He honorably served two tours of duty in Viet Nam. His first began as a 17-year-old medic serving with the 82nd Airborne during the Tet Offensive of 1968. His second was with the 173rd Airborne, receiving numerous commendations for his service to our country.
He was formerly employed by Bongard’s Creameries Temple Inland and engaged in soap manufacturing.
Gary enjoyed fishing for walleyes and hunting.
He was also a devoted father and loved his sons very much.
Gary is survived by a son, Ryan G. Carlson of Stillwater; his mother, Madeline M. Carlson of Winsted; a sister, Paulette (Randy Smith) Carlson of Nashville, Tenn.; brothers Bradley (Ann) Carlson of Plymouth, and Joseph (Colleen) Carlson of Winsted; nieces and nephews Cali; Nicholas and Noah; Hannah and Aaron; his loving companion, Shandra Wheeler; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kristopher, in 2002; and by his father, Herbert W. Carlson in 1982.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Aug. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. The Rev. Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant, and interment with military rites followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Friends called Friday, Aug. 5 from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Casket bearers were Nicholas Carlson, Noah Carlson, Morris Le-Page, Ed Melzark, Ron Schrempp, and Fred Waldoch.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
