Donald Dale Custer
Donald Dale Custer, age 79 of Howard Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005 at the Waconia hospital.
He was born Aug. 9, 1925 near Howard Lake, the son of Warren and Agnes (Munson) Custer. He was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church, Howard Lake, March 12, 1941 by the Rev. Elkin, and confirmed into the Lutheran faith Dec. 23, 1945 by the Rev. Theo. Melinat.
Donald was united in marriage to LaVerne Luhman Feb. 4, 1945 at St. James Lutheran Church by the Rev. Theo Melinat. They were blessed with three children and nearly 60 years of marriage.
Donald and LaVerne made their home and living on a farm southwest of Howard Lake.
Donald’s hobbies included fishing, gardening, and feeding the birds.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Agnes Custer; sisters Evelyn May and Geneve Miller; brotheres James Custer and Milton Custer.
He is survived by his wife, LaVerne; children Linda (Darril) Telecky of Winsted, Steven (Pamela) Custer of Savage, and Brenda (Terry) Dalbec of Delano; six grandchildren: Jill (Anthony) Adrian, Aaron (Anna) Telecky, Abby Custer, Shane Custer, Nathan Dalbec, and Andrew Dalbec; and three great-grandchildren: Nikolas Adrian, Samantha Adrian, and Isabelle Telecky.
Donald is further survived by two sisters, Pearl Gruenhagen and DeLores Wessman; three brothers, Amos Custer, Dean Custer, and Wayne Custer; nieces, nephews, and many relatives, friends, and neighbors.
Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 3 at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. Marge Stueven was the soloist and Nancy Butterfass served as organist. Interment was at the St. James Cemetery on Dutch Lake.
Visitation was Wednesday, Feb. 2 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake, and continued one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. A prayer service took place at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Pallbearers were Aaron Telecky, Shane Custer, Anthony Adrian, Nathan Dalbec, Nikolas Adrian, and Craig Brose.
Honorary pallbearers were Jill Telecky, Abby Custer, Anna Telecky, Andrew Dalbec, and Samantha Adrian.
The Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake served the family.
