Esther Dorothea Emch
Esther Dorothea Emch, age 102 of Plato, died Thursday, March 3, 2005 at the Waconia Good Samaritan Center.
Esther was born Sept. 3, 1902 in Plato, the daughter of John and Ida (Tappert) Krohn. She was baptized Sept. 21, 1902 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato by the Rev. J. S. Hertrich, and confirmed April 20, 1916 at the same church by the Rev. R. Zwintscher.
She attended country school in Plato.
Esther was united in marriage to John F. Emch Oct. 25, 1922 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato by the Rev. Zwintscher. They made their home in Plato.
A lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Esther was a past member of the St. John’s Ladies Aid.
She enjoyed cooking, fishing, playing cards, spending time with her family, and traveling, especially to Apache Junction, Ariz. during the winter.
Esther is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Donna Kuse of Plato; grandchildren and their spouses: Juliann and Dale Dobrava of Glencoe, Joann and Tom Bebo of Silver Lake, Judy and Chuck Heiland of Plato, and Paul and Dean Verch of Glencoe; and great-grandchildren: Jill Gildea, Debra Schiroo and husband Cory, Douglas Dobrava, Cody Bebo, Brandon Verch, Hannah Verch, and Aaron Bebo.
She is further survived by sisters-in-law Laverna Behlmann, and Leona Wagner and husband Elgie, all of Aitkin; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ida Krohn; her husband, John Emch; an infant son; great-grandson Christopher Bebo; brothers John J., Erwin, Norman, and Melvin Emch; and three sisters, Ida, Ruth, and Maebelle.
Funeral services were Monday, March 7 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato with the Rev. Bruce Laabs officiating. Organist was Paul Emch, and congregational hymns were “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” “Oh, That The Lord Would Guide My Ways,” and “The Lord Is My Shepherd.” Interment was in the church cemetery.
Casket bearers were Dale Dobrava, Dean Verch, Tom Bebo, Chuck Heiland, Roger Krohn, and Richard Krohn.
Arrangements were with the Johnson/McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
