Melvin O. Franke
Melvin O. Franke, age 87 of Mayer, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia.
He was born July 16, 1917 at Gaylord, the son of Otto and Elsie (Lemke) Franke. He was baptized Aug. 26, 1917 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gaylord by the Rev. C. Schreiner, and confirmed May 17, 1931 at the same church by the Rev. E. Schlachtenhaufen.
Melvin married Helen L. Krecklau Sept. 30 1936 at Zion Lutheran Church, New Auburn Twp., by the Rev. William Striepe.
A farmer most of his lifetime, Melvin was also employed at Advance Machine.
He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed gardening, woodworking, traveling, and playing cards.
Melvin and Helen also enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Elbow Lake for the past 20 years.
Melvin loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and he enjoyed spending time with them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Helen; children and spouses: Romayne Hahn of Glencoe, Yvonne and Ken Bahr of Mayer, Sharon Born of Coon Rapids, and Leon and Kathy Franke of Delano; and grandchildren: Brad and Bonnie Hahn, Randy Hahn, Rick Hahn, Rhonda and Dan Noga, Kelley Bahr, Patty and Joel Sievers, Beckie Born, Bill and Jenny Born, Michelle and Kris Georges, and Aimee Franke; great-grandchildren Brian and Sue Ann, Brandon, Brent, Mitchell, Travis, Crystle, Tony, Josh, Devyn, Lauryn, Jake, Ben, Colton, Chandler and Kaden; and great-great-grandchildren Ally and Michael.
Melvin is further survived by brother and sister-in-law Clarence and Elaine Franke of Gaylord; sisters Saila Furch of Wisconsin, and Bernice Zachow and Millie Henke, both of Gaylord; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Alice Franke of Hutchinson, Lawrence and Irene Krecklau, and Mildred Krecklau, all of Glencoe; Edwin Kloempken of Arlington, and Eileen Mielke of Hutchinson; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Melvin was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gerald Hahn; parents Otto and Elsie Franke; brothers Ernie and Sylvan Franke; father-in-law and mother-in-law Henry and Minnie Krecklau; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Ervin Furch, Walter Zachow, Harold Henke, Esther Kloempken, Harold Krecklau, and Howard Mielke.
A funeral service took place Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer with the Rev. Peter Meier officiating. Interment followed at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Mayer.
Casket bearers were grandsons Brad Hahn, Randy Hahn, Rick Hahn, Dan Noga, Joel Sievers, Bill Born, and Kris Georges.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
