Joan Mae Gilbertson
Joan Mae Gilbertson, age 78 of Dassel, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2005 at the Dassel Lakeside Nursing Home in Dassel.
Funeral services wil1 be Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 1:30 p.m. at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel with the Rev. Steve Olson officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the services at the church.
Joan was born. July 10, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa to Michael and Tilda (Anderson) Rissman.
At age three, she moved to Badger, and received her elementary education in Roseau country schools, graduating from Badger High School in 1945. She continued her education at Interstate Business College in Fargo, N.D.
Joan was united in marriage to Bernard Gilbertson Sept. 6, 1947 at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo, N.D. They lived in Bozeman, Mont., before moving to various places in North Dakota.
Joan was employed as a receptionist for WDAY Radio in Fargo, and as a secretary for KFYR TV and Radio in Bismarck.
In 1966, Joan and Bernard moved to Litchfield, where Joan was employed by Johnson Brothers Construction. In 1971, they moved to southern Minnesota.
Joan returned to Litchfield and continued to work for Johnson Brothers until her retirement in 1992.
Joan enjoyed reading and history. In her earlier years, she also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and quilting with her mother.
She is survived by her children, John (and Patricia) Gilbertson of Gainsville, N.Y., Terry Gilbertson of New Haven, Conn., and James Gilbertson of Litchfield; and two grandchildren, John Jr. and Wendy.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents.
