Willard H. “Jessie” Groenke
Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 2 for Willard H. “Jessie” Groenke, age 79 of New Germany. He died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005 at Elim Home in Watertown.
Jessie was born Jan. 10, 1926 at Watertown Twp., Carver County, the son of William C. and Wilhelmina A. (Koehler) Groenke. He was baptized Feb. 7, 1926 at Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer, by the Rev. F. W. Erthal; and confirmed March 17, 1940 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hollywood Twp, New Germany by the Rev. Ernst.
Jessie was united in marriage to Dorothy “Jean” Chapman Sept. 22, 1990 at St. Mark parsonage in New Germany by the Rev. Jack Dahl.
A milk truck driver for over 40 years, Jessie also was employed at Green Giant and loved farming.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; sisters Marcille Groenke of Minneapolis, and Lillian Campbell of Osseo; and brothers and sisters-in-law Ralph and Joan Groenke of Fridley, George Groenke of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Gloria Groenke of Minneapolis.
Jessie is further survived by nieces and nephews Scott and Brenda Groenke, Steven and Jodie Campbell, Wyman Groenke, and Craig and Chris Groenke; great nieces and nephews Jenn, Josh, Nate, Ashley, Kali, Tyler, Dilan, Halen, and Lake; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice; parents William and Wilhelmina Groenke; brothers Donald, Milan, Dale, and Edward “Pete” Groenke; and brother-in-law Elmer Campbell.
Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with the Rev. Allen Holthus officiating. Interment followed at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation took place one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
Casket bearers were Scott Groenke, Steve Campbell, Craig Groenke, Wyman Groenke, Josh Groenke, Bob Roepke, and Richard Roepke.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
