Joseph John Gueningsman

Joseph John Gueningsman, age 83 of Winsted, died Monday evening, April 25, 2005 at his residence.

He was born Feb. 24, 1922 in Winsted Township, McLeod County, the son of Andrew and Cora Segner Gueningsman.

Joe honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Force during WW II as a military policeman.

He was joined in holy marriage to Elizabeth T. Libor Aug. 21, 1946 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano. God blessed their marriage with four children.

Joe owned and operated Joe’s Bar in downtown Winsted for many years. He was later employed at Carter’s Steel Company and at Pillsbury.

Following his retirement, he worked part-time at the Winsted Funeral Home.

Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, talking with people, camping, and playing cards.

He was a faithful, lifetime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, and belonged to Holy Family Council 204. Joe also was a member of Winsted American Legion Post 407.

Joe is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Eliz” (Libor) Gueningsman; children: Bob (Vonnie) Gueningsman of Winsted, Carol (friend Jack) Pfeifer of Crescent City, Fla., Jean (Donald “Fidd”) Fasching of Howard Lake, and Rose (Dale) Johnson of Glencoe; 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

He is further survived by sisters Bernice (Ronald) Quast of Anoka, Marie Quast of Alexandria, and Theresa Fasching of Winsted; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Cora Gueningsman; and by his brothers, Roman, Raymond, and Donald Gueningsman.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, April 29 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant, and interment with military rites followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery .

Family and friends called Thursday, April 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A Holy Family rosary was recited at 4:30 p.m., a prayer service took place at 6:30 p.m., and an American Legion ritual was performed at 7 p.m.

Honorary casket bearers were Joe’s grandchildren: Steven Pfeifer, Christian Pfeifer, Angela Jagodzinski, Josette Pariseau, and Beth Johnson.

Casket bearers were Joe’s grandsons: Andrew Gueningsman, Ryan Gueningsman, Guy Pariseau, Trevor Fasching, Jason Telecky, and Dan Johnson.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
