Ardis A. Hecksel
Ardis A. Hecksel, age 82 of Watertown, died Saturday, July 9, 2005 at her home.
She was born July 10, 1922 in Camden Township, New Germany, the daughter of Gustav and Lena (Domjahn) Guetzkow. Ardis was baptized July 30, 1922 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany by the Rev. Theodore Rolf; and confirmed July 26, 1936 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Montrose, by the Rev. Alvin Leerssen.
Ardis was united in marriage to Woodrow H. Hecksel Sept. 18, 1940 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, by the Rev. Theodore Rolf.
She was employed as a nurse’s aide at Watertown Community Hospital for over 20 years.
A 50-year member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Winsted, Ardis was a member of St. John’s Ladies Aid, serving as its secretary; a Sunday school teacher, and a choir member. She transferred to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown in May 2004.
Ardis enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, especially flowers; crocheting, bowling, and fishing.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Marlin and Marlene Hecksel of Watertown, and Eldron and Sharon Hecksel of Winsted; daughters and sons-in-law Joyce and Ronald Schmidt, Jane and Ronald Dressel, all of Maple Plalin, Gerald Gongoll of Waverly, and Donald and wife, Diane Barfnecht of Watertown; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Ardis is further survived by a sister, Vernice Narr of Watertown; brother-in-law Clinton Spomer of Watertown; sister-in-law Luella Hecksel of Winsted; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow (Woody) Hecksel; daughters Janice Barfnecht and June Gongoll; son Lennis Hecksel; grandson Darwin Barfnecht; parents Gustav and Lena Guetzkow; sisters Merline Jorgensen, and Mervanna Spomer; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law DeVern Jorgensen, Raymond Narr, Raymond and Irene Hecksel, and Wallace Hecksel.
Funeral services were Tuesday, July 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Gerald Boldt of St. John’s Lutheran in Winsted, officiating. Interment was in the Watertown Public Cemetery.
Casketbearers were Ardis’ grandsons: Brian Hecksel (godchild), Greg Gongoll, Scott Schmidt, Doug Dressel, Dan Hecksel, and Neil Hecksel.
Honorary casketbearers were her godchildren: Dawn Barfnecht, Carolyn Dobratz, Becky Engel, Jeanette Hill, Janet Chaffe, and Lois Campbell.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
